Discover the magic.

Welcome!

Erth Play started on a beach with my kids.

We were trying to build sand sculptures with one of those cheap plastic sets. The kind where the shovel snaps the first time you put any weight on it. I remember sitting there thinking, these are genuinely terrible. Not just flimsy, but actively in the way of the thing we were trying to do. And the answer to why they were so bad turned out to be simple: nobody had really tried to design them well.

That's my job, more or less. By day I'm a hardware engineer. I studied Mechatronic Systems Engineering at SFU and run Erth Product Development Inc. I've spent over a decade designing things across AI, robotics, consumer electronics, and industrial products. So I figured: I can fix a bucket & shovel.

It took longer than I expected. Most of the first few years was design failures, half-decent prototypes, more failures, and a lot of testing on actual beaches with actual sand getting into actual everything. The set you see today is the version that finally held up. Sturdier, safer, made from food-grade silicone instead of brittle plastic, and actually fun to build with.

I launched Erth Play in 2023 from my home office in West Kelowna. It's still a small operation. If you order one, there's a good chance I packed it myself.

If you're on a beach this summer, I hope you'll give it a try. And if you build something cool, please send me a picture! It genuinely makes my week.
